Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem was appointed to the Board as Chairman on 30 May 2007 and as Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer on 8 February 2016. With a career spanning three decades across a wide range of industries, he brings a wealth of leadership experience to the Boardroom. In his previous role as Chairman of Dubai World he established and led diverse businesses, including Nakheel, a real estate and tourism property development firm; and Istithmar World, a major global private equity investment house. He oversaw the rapid development of the Jebel Ali Free Zone into an unrivalled business park of more than 7,000 companies and pioneered the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre. As Chairman of DP World he has been at the forefront of the Company’s international expansion, including the $6.85 billion acquisition of P&O Group. Mr. Bin Sulayem holds a BS in Economics from Temple University, United States. He is a Board member of the Dubai Executive Council, the Dubai Economic Council, a Non-Executive Director of Asteco LLC, Noor Bank and Hyperloop One. A citizen of the United Arab Emirates, he is 61 years old. He is a Member of the Nominations and Governance Committee.
With more than three decades of port terminal operations and management experience, Mohammed Al Muallem, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, DP World – UAE Region, has led the growth and development of the region's most important port through a period of major expansions, defining and driving its strategic vision.
Jebel Ali Port, the flagship of DP World has developed rapidly under his guidance and counts itself today amongst the top 10 ports in the world. In the last decade, the container throughput in the UAE Region has doubled from 7.6 million TEUs in 2005 to 15.2 million in 2014.
In 2003, Al Muallem inspired port operations in the region, when he employed the use of the Quad Lift Gantry, a gantry crane capable of lifting four 20 feet containers or two 40 feet containers in one single lift, a concept never before seen in the world.
Al Muallem joined Port Rashid in 1983 and moved rapidly through various operational and management roles, before overseeing the UAE Region of DP World in September 2005. Al Muallem was appointed Chairman of the Executive Merging Team of Dubai Ports Authority, Dubai Customs and the Free Zone in 2000 and in May 2004, Executive Coordinator for the Terminal 2 development at Jebel Ali Port.
Mohammed Al Muallem holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering Degree from the University of Portland, Oregon, U.S.A. and has completed extensive training in U.K. at the University of Manchester, Cranfield College.
In line with the new structure, which incorporates DP World, UAE Region's Ports, Parks and Free Zones, Logistics, Dubai Trade and World Security, Mr Al Muallem assumed the position of Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director for DP World, UAE Region in January 2017 to explore a new world of opportunity that the supply chain offers.
Abdulla Bin Damithan has been with DP World since 2001. He was appointed as Chief Commercial Officer for DP World – UAE Region in 2017. Abdulla is responsible for all revenue generation activities, products and services offered across the portfolio including Ports & Terminals, Parks & Zones and Trade Enablement solutions.
Abdulla is a recognised leader in the maritime & logistics landscape within the Middle East with commercial success across the maritime & logistics industries. His focus on innovation and customer centricity have been the core of his commercial strategy. Abdulla sits on the Board of a number of DP World Ports & Terminals globally and also is an independent director in logistics ventures.
A proud Emirati national, Abdulla has a Bachelors in Business from the United States and a Graduate Diploma in Maritime & Port Management from the National University of Singapore. He has also completed the Dubai Leaders Program and leadership courses at the London Business School.
Jamal Majid Bin Theniyah has served as a Director and Vice Chairman of the Company since 30 May 2007 and became a Non-Executive Director on 27 October 2009. He joined Dubai Ports in 1981 and, from 2001, led Dubai Ports Authority. He is the Group Chief Executive Officer of Port & Free Zone World, and in this role he oversees P&O Ferries and Economic Zones World, which includes Jebel Ali Free Zone. He also serves as Vice Chairman of Istithmar World Holdings LLC and Istithmar World PJSC and as a Non-Executive Director of Etihad Rail (Abu Dhabi).
